On The Go
We’re heading out for a couple weeks to some real nice spots. We’ll be at the Lowell Folk Festival and Ossipee Valley in New England, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville opening for Del McCoury Band and the Newport Folk Festival with Steve Martin, as well several other places from Missouri to Minnesota. When we get back it’ll be about time to set to working on our collaboration album with Steve, then we’ll take a couple days off. We just got back from the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, which was the first comedy festival we’ve ever played; it’s kind of like a music festival without music, but lots of funny people.
We’ve just finished a great 3rd tour with Steve Martin and are recollecting ourselves back at home before heading out again. For the past few days we had the pleasure of Tony Trischka’s company. He’ll be producing the upcoming Steve Martin/Steep Canyon Rangers CD; so we played through a bunch of tunes and worked on arrangements and such....very exciting!
Joining us on the last leg of the tour was Abigail Washburn and her wonderful band. Thanks to all of them for their music (and for the world’s greatest bus dance party).
”Deep In The Shade” moved back into the Billboard Top 10 this week, yea...
"Deep in the Shade" jumped back up to #8 on the Billboard Bluegrass Album Chart this week!

Bonaroo and further
We’ve been on the road with Steve Martin for the last week and have had some great stops. There’s been a lot of rehearsing, getting ready for our album and playing some new tunes. One big highlight has been our time spent at Bonaroo; it was great to play some bluegrass for such a big crowd of music-lovers. The Punch Brothers have joined us for a handful of shows and it’s been pleasure getting to hang out and hear those guys. We’ll be traveling the west coast for the next few days before heading back to NC for a little break.
Deep In The Shade has been climbing up the bluegrass radio charts in the last couple months. The album is currently #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Album Chart, with Turn Up The Bottle, Have Mercy and There Ain’t No Easy Street all in the Top 30 Singles. Bluegrass Music Profiles has the album #1 for this month with two songs in the Top 10 Singles. We’re headed out on Thursday for a tour with Steve Martin, including a stop at Bonaroo this Friday.
We had a fantastic, exhausting Memorial Day weekend. After driving through the night Friday from Little Jon’s to Delfest we climbed straight up on the stage and pretty much didn’t stop going until we left on Sunday afternoon. The late night show with the Lee Boys and all didn’t close out until 4 am on Saturday.... Thanks to Del and the Boys and all the folks there for treating us so well.
We’ll be back on the road next Thursday for a handful of shows with Steve Martin.
We’re heading back home after a fine two days at Silver Dollar City in Missouri. Our buddy ’Mountain Dew’ took a few of us out on the Table Rock Lake for some fishing, we rode the roller coasters, and of course there was loads of great Bluegrass...several weeks worth.
This weekend, we’ll be returning to the site of some of our earliest Bluegrass experiences for Little John’s Festival in Snow Camp, NC. From there it’s off to DelFest for Saturday and Sunday. If you haven’t been to these two festivals yet, the perfect time is now.
Fri. 5/28: Steep Canyon Rangers appear in Snow Camp, NC at this classic Bluegrass festival (formerly the Bass Mountain Festival)
Sat./Sun. 5/29-30: DEL YEAH!! -- The 3rd Annual DelFest is shaping up to be a terrific time at the Alleghany Co. Fairgrounds in Cumberland, MD. Hope to see you there!
